Import from Apple Calendar

Last reviewed May 14, 2026

Apple Calendar exports calendars in the standard iCalendar format (.ics), which NimbleCal can import.

Privacy note
The exported ICS file is plain text while it sits in Downloads, cloud storage, email, or shared folders. After you import it, the events stored in NimbleCal use the app's normal end-to-end encryption.

Step 1: Export from Apple Calendar on macOS

  1. Open the Calendar app on your Mac.
  2. In the sidebar, click the calendar you want to export.
  3. In the menu bar, click FileExportExport
  4. Save the .ics file.
Tip
Apple Calendar exports one calendar at a time. Repeat these steps for each calendar you want to move, then import the `.ics` files together in NimbleCal.

Step 2: Import into NimbleCal

  1. In NimbleCal, in the left sidebar under My Calendars, click the + menu.
  2. Choose Import calendar.
  3. Click Browse files.
  4. Select one or more .ics files you exported.
  5. Pick a destination. With multiple files, you can Create a calendar for each file, Import into existing calendar, or Create a new calendar that combines everything.
  6. Click Import events. With multiple files, the button label includes the file count, such as Import 3 files.
Free plan note
Creating multiple calendars at once requires a Plus plan. If you're on Free and already have your 1 calendar, import into an existing calendar.
